Moszna, a small village in the Opole Voivodeship, is located on the transport route connecting Prudnik with Krapkowice. The name of the village likely originates from the Moschin family, who arrived in the Łącznik parish in the 14th century. It is in this picturesque corner that one of the region’s most recognizable landmarks was established – Moszna Castle. Its unique architecture, rich in details referencing various styles, along with its incomparable atmosphere, attract tourists from all over the world.

The first traces of settlement on the site of the present castle date back to the Middle Ages. Archaeological research has confirmed the existence of a wooden defensive structure here. In the 18th century, a palace-and-garden complex existed on the Moszna grounds, although detailed information about earlier buildings is lacking.

In 1679, Moszna belonged to the von Skall family. After the death of Ursula Maria von Skall in 1723, the estate passed into the hands of Georg Wilhelm von Reisewitz, marshal of the court of Frederick the Great. It was during this time that the central part of the current palace was built. In 1771, the von Reisewitz family lost Moszna to Heinrich Leopold von Seherr-Thoss, whose descendants managed the estate for the following decades. In 1853, Karl Gotthard Seherr-Thoss sold the palace to Heinrich von Erdmannsdorf. In 1866, the estate was purchased by Hubert von Tiele-Winckler, an industrialist from Miechowice, who began a new chapter in the residence’s history.

Moszna became the main residence of the Tiele-Winckler family. In 1896, the Baroque palace was partially destroyed by fire, and Franz Hubert von Tiele-Winckler, then the owner, decided to rebuild and simultaneously expand the building. The work carried out between 1896 and 1900 gave the structure its neo-Gothic character. Between 1911 and 1913, the west wing was added in the Neo-Renaissance style, creating a unique blend of architectural styles. Although originally built as a palace, the building came to be known as a “castle” due to its monumental architecture and numerous towers, which give it the appearance of a fortress. The palace became a symbol of the Tiele-Winckler family’s prestige, and its form and scale earned it the title of a castle. 

During World War II, the palace served as a branch of a military hospital from Prudnik. Fortunately, it was not damaged during military operations, although it was looted by Soviet soldiers in 1945. Some furnishings were lost, including paintings, sculptures, and furniture. After the war, the palace was used by various institutions. In 1948, part of the former estate grounds was transformed into a State Stud Farm. In 1972, the palace became the Center for Neurosis Therapy, which operated there until 2013. 

The castle reportedly has 365 rooms and 99 towers. According to legend, the Tiele-Winckler family dreamed of a hundredth tower but never built it due to a binding law. If the castle had one hundred towers, the owners would have been required to maintain a military garrison, which was too costly. Another version claims that each tower symbolized one estate belonging to the family, meant to emphasize their wealth and power. The mysterious number 99 continues to intrigue visitors to this day.

Currently managed by Moszna Zamek sp. z o.o., the facility offers tourist services, lodging, and dining. Open year-round, it attracts visitors with numerous attractions that allow exploration of its history and architecture. Visitors can admire the preserved and restored castle interiors, including the representative ballroom, the former library, and the castle chapel with beautiful architectural details. For thrill seekers, the castle offers nighttime tours, during which visitors can learn about its darker legends and discover areas inaccessible during the day. Atmospheric lighting and guided stories create an unforgettable ambiance. 

Moszna Castle is a member of the Opolski Bifyj Culinary Route and has received the Certificate of the Polish Tourism Organization (POT) as well as the Certificate of the Opole Regional Tourism Organization (OROT), highlighting the quality of its services.

Moszna Castle is a center for cultural events, including concerts, tourism fairs, Laser Tag, Venetian balls, escape rooms, and photoshoots with foxes. It is a place that combines history, entertainment, and magic all in one. On the castle grounds, there is also a café where visitors can relax and a gift shop, perfect for purchasing unique souvenirs from a visit to this magical place.

The project “Hugo Yorck’s Four Worlds” offers children unforgettable winter camps, summer colonies, and outdoor schools in castles and palaces, including Moszna Castle. Participants develop passions related to fantasy literature, history, video games, and sports, while also learning about local culture and history in a magical atmosphere. The program also includes themed events inspired by “The Witcher” and “Harry Potter.” This project has received the Certificate of the Opole Regional Tourism Organization.

The palace interiors feature exclusive guest rooms offering accommodation in a historic setting. The restaurant serves both regional and international dishes, which can be enjoyed in the unique atmosphere of the palace halls. 

A special attraction is the park, covering over 100 hectares, where visitors can admire majestic trees, including oaks and lindens that are hundreds of years old. In spring, especially in May and June, the park draws attention with the stunning spectacle of blooming rhododendrons. Walkers can also discover the former Tiele-Winckler family cemetery, numerous water channels, and a picturesque fountain located in front of the palace’s main façade. 

In spring, during the rhododendron bloom, the annual Musical Festival of Blooming Azaleas is held. This event features concerts of classical and chamber music, both inside the castle and outdoors. It is accompanied by art exhibitions, plein-air painting sessions, and other cultural events.
